February is ‘Share The Love’ Month at The Nest Egg

The Nest Egg in Fairfax, one of Northern Virginia's local destinations for unique home furnishings and decorative accents, has pledged to donate a portion of their sales during Valentine's week, Feb. 11-17, to Journey 4 A Cure's iPad Program. The iPad program makes a difference in the lives of youth fighting childhood cancers.

The iPad Program was launched by Journey 4 A Cure (J4AC) to improve the lives of children battling cancer. In their quest to increase awareness of childhood cancer and raise money to power critical research for cures, the organization became acquainted with brave children who spend their days battling cancer. Recognizing that a cure could be years away, it became important to Journey 4 A Cure to create a program to impact the lives of these children now. Children who are battling cancer spend most, if not all, of their time in the hospital being treated. The goal of the iPad program is to offer a tool that will allow children to communicate with friends and family outside of the hospital, use apps to stimulate learning and provide a diversion during their long hospital stays and waits for and during treatment. The iPad program not only helps them communicate and learn but also provides entertainment.

The Nest Egg supports local organizations each year by providing donations of gift certificates and merchandise to fundraisers for schools, charities and other groups. Said owner Ann O'Shields, "We are always looking for ways to increase the impact our donations have on local organizations. We are also excited to involve our customers in this initiative. By promoting Journey 4 A Cure to our customers in the store, hopefully we can help increase the organization's reach throughout our community.

“With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we thought it would be the perfect time to promote our ‘Share The Love’ program and support Journey 4 A Cure’s iPad Program. When our customers shop with us during Valentine’s week, Feb. 11-17, whether they are looking for gifts for their loved ones or just shopping for themselves, they’ll be helping support Journey 4 A Cure.”

The Nest Egg opened in the Fairfax Corner shopping center (www.fairfaxcorner.com) in May of 2004 and the owners and employees have enjoyed developing strong relationships with their customers and the community for over eight years. Journey 4 A Cure is a pediatric cancer foundation committed to enhancing the lives of children and families currently battling cancer while increasing awareness about the realities of pediatric cancer.
