On Her Way to Carnegie Hall

— As a finalist in the American Fine Arts Festival competition, Maggie Kirtley, has earned the opportunity to perform piano in Carnegie Hall in New York City.

A seventh grader at Rocky Run Middle School, Maggie has been studying piano at the studio of Silva Blazquez. She has performed in numerous competitions in front of audiences and judges. She was the first place winner of the Piano Ensemble Competition, an honors winner at the Piano Sonata Festival, first place winner at the Piano Concerto competition, honors at the Bach Baroque competition, third place winner at the Hartman competition and second Place winner at the SMC Piano Composer’s competition. Maggie also plays piano for the elderly at a nearby retirement center.

Maggie, who aspires to be a surgeon when she grows up, is a straight A student at Rocky Run. In addition to playing piano, she is also a violinist in the Chamber Orchestra, taught by Stephen Matthie. She has also been a piano accompanist for her school’s orchestra.
