Sundog Productions Expands in Fairfax

Sundog hosts grand opening of new 40,000-square-foot facility on June 1.

Sundog Productions, which has been creating custom tie-dye and screen-printed “wearable art” for more than 20 years in the City of Fairfax, announced Tuesday, May 28, the grand opening of its new 40,000-square-foot facility on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 11 a.m. at 3850 Jermantown Road.

The facility is the only manufacturing plant in the region using green energy to power its production process and eco-friendly dye to produce its t-shirts.

“As part of our commitment to the environment, focusing on green and sustainable solutions, our new facility in the City of Fairfax will reduce its carbon footprint through the use of geo-thermal and solar energy systems and eco-friendly dyes,” said CAS Shiver, Sundog Productions founder.

“The benefits from our green energy efforts have improved core manufacturing processes without compromising product quality,” Shiver said.

The new plant includes a diverse clothing factory with sewing, screen printing, embroidery and custom dyeing capabilities, all under one roof. It is the only factory of its kind on the East Coast.

In the new space, the company will continue to develop several popular niche brands, including IMAGINE Greenwear, SportScience, Sewell, Not Fade Away, Metawear, Tie Dye Doodle and Sunpup. Two of Sundog’s newest creations are Sundog SeaInk and Sundog Sunburn printing. Sundog SeaInk is considered the most eco-friendly printing system for natural fibers on the market today.

The new facility will allow Sundog to turn out more than three million garments annually and accommodate any size order. Sundog employs 55 workers, including three in-house designers, creating made-to-order or one-off designs for Disney, Universal Studios, A-list rock ‘n’ roll bands such as the Grateful Dead and Rolling Stones, and Fortune 500 companies.

The family-owned business supports independent t-shirt shops, music stores, sports leagues and schools, providing a “Made in America” product at a moderate price point.
