Fairfax Library Foundation has awarded three Fairfax County Public Library employees and volunteers with Continuing Education scholarships to foster the professional development of the Fairfax County Public Library team.
Julie Herrick, a librarian at Chantilly Regional Library, is using the scholarship to cover the cost of a Malice Domestic 25 event. Herrick attended this conference to maintain her awareness of mystery titles, which appeal to older Fairfax County Public Library visitors. Herrick hopes she can better serve that demographic with the knowledge gained.
Dorothy Jordan, a circulation manager at Richard Byrd Regional Library, received a scholarship to help offset the costs of the Librarian’s Day Event at Romance Writers of America Conference. Jordon attended this event to increase her knowledge of contemporary romance writers and changing book formats, such as eBooks, to better serve library customers.
Caroline D. Tirona, a library aid at Tyson’s Pimmit and Dolley Madison libraries, received a scholarship to undercut the costs of a Northern Virginia Community College course entitled “Guiding the Behavior of Children.” Tirona hopes to use this course to be better equipped to serve the younger library patrons and to gain skills for keeping them engaged in reading.
