Chanukah Celebration Is Planned in Fairfax City

A Chanukah celebration is planned for Wednesday, Dec. 25, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., in Old Town Square. Rabbi Sholom Deitsch of Chabad Lubavitch of Northern Virginia will light the menorah. Everyone is invited to attend the ceremony, sing Chanukah songs, enjoy live entertainment and partake of jelly doughnuts, potato latkes and hot chocolate. And children are always excited to see the sky-high ladder of a fire engine drop Chanukah gelt (gold-foil-wrapped chocolate coins) for them to catch and eat.

At last year’s event, Deitsch told the crowd, “Each one of us can be a candle to chase away the darkness.” He then urged attendees to “Bring light into your heart, bring light into your house, bring light into your community, and bring light into the world.”
